Project: Eye Was Framed!

Sponsored by Mr. Pizzo, he created a service learning project to collect old Eyeglass Frames. We partnered with Lighthouse for the Blind, which is a non-profit organization, where their goal is to provide vision rehabilitation and eye health services to the low-income communities of South Florida. Alex Williams,  said “We are excited to develop this project as we have seen a need in our community to ensure those who need glasses have them.” Gismelly Martinez, said “Many of us still have our old eye glasses sitting around the house collecting dust. Now is the time to make a difference and put those old frames to good use.”

In total we collected 155 frames. We are very proud of our overall effort, as it has proven that when a need in the community is isolated, we can successfully work together to solve that difficulty.

MDA of Broward County

Sponsored by Mr. Pizzo, he created another service learning project by partnering with MDA of Broward County, which is a non-profit organization. Although their goal was to collect $650, the actual amount collected was $660. It was given to MDA of Broward County on March 26, 2009. Mr. Pizzo, had this to say about the outstanding efforts. "We are all proud of the initiative everyone has taken  in getting involved in our community. It is important that we develop our personalization skills and give back to our community."

A vital part of MDA's financial support comes from strong partnerships, some decades old, with national sponsors. MDA has teamed up with caring corporations, organizations, and brands which, each year, generate tens of millions of dollars through creative campaigns, sales, and year-round special events. MDA owes tremendous gratitude not only to the decision makers who maintain these partnerships, but also to the personnel, customers, and other participants involved at every level who are at the heart of the fight against neuromuscular diseases.
